On World Sight Day AMD Alliance International Demands Action for People with Macular Disease
Welcome Globe and Mail Readers
Many millions of people around the world are blind or living with vision loss. That number in Canada alone is more than 830,000 and almost 3.5 million more have potentially treatable eye conditions like age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. And according to a recent study, vision loss costs Canada $15.8 billion every year.
AMD Alliance International is demanding that Canada and other countries develop a national
vision health strategy, that patients have access to the best approved treatments, and that
patients have the opportunity to fully participate in choices about their treatment and healthcare
options.
