IMPACT OF AMD - OVERVIEW

Both forms of AMD, the so-called "dry" AMD and the more aggressive "wet" form may result in a devastating loss of central vision. In some cases, treatment can decrease the amount or rate of visual loss. Wet AMD is the leading cause of legal blindness in people over 50 years of age in the western world, affecting about 500,000 people worldwide each year. There is typically a progressive loss of central vision among people affected by the disease.
